Sitar Arts Center’s Staff Bios

Ed Spitzberg, Executive Director: Ed is privileged to lead the Center’s staff to ensure that our programs provide our community’s young people with high-quality, positive artistic choices. Prior to joining Sitar Arts Center in 2007, Ed served as Development Director at Arena Stage and was Product Manager for Walt Disney Internet Group and the late Comedy World. Ed also produced and performed in the sold-out Eddie Lounge Show in the first two Capital Fringe Festivals, has taught piano and voice, and continues to teach piano at Sitar Arts Center. Ed serves on the board of the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates. He has a BA from Yale University and an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA.

Erin Bowers, Director of Social Enterprises and Communications: Erin manages communications and earned revenue activities at Sitar Arts Center, as well as teaches arts entrepreneurship, cello, and magazine design. Prior to joining the staff in August 2006, Erin worked as the Operations Coordinator at the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, NC. She earned a BA in Cello Performance from Ithaca College and a MA in Arts Management from American University, where she was a fellowship student. She plays cello professionally throughout the region.

Sarah Campbell, Development & Executive Assistant: Sarah handles administrative tasks for the development department and Executive Director. At Sitar Arts Center, Sarah has previously taught lyric & songwriting, service learning, and music theory classes and currently assists with early childhood music classes. She attended college at Stetson University in her home state of Florida where she received her BA in Humanities with concentrations in Art History and Literature.

Maureen Dwyer, Deputy Director: Previously the Grants Manager, Maureen has worked at the Center for ten years. She now oversees all programs including the Instrumental Music Education Project. Prior to Sitar Arts Center, Maureen co-directed a small performance company and worked as a performing artist and an early childhood educator. She has a BA in drama from Catholic University of America and enjoys teaching musical theater at the Center. Maureen was recently welcomed to the 2008 Future Executive Director’s fellowship class by the Nonfprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington.

Monica Harrington, Director of Development: Prior to joining Sitar Arts Center in January 2007, Monica had 10 years of fundraising experience with both national and community-based organizations. Monica has a BA in political science from Seattle University.

Joe Link, Music Associate: Joe is in charge of music theory, providing students with appropriate materials, ensuring that volunteers are available to assist them, teaching lessons in drums, percussion and guitar, and directing the Saints Band. He attended the University of the District of Columbia, Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory of Music, and The Banff School of Fine Arts. In addition to his work at Sitar Arts Center, Joe plays drums professionally around the Washington, DC metropolitan area and teaches at St. Andrews School Episcopal School.

Rachel Lipton, Student Outreach Intern: An import from California via the AVODAH AmeriCorps program, Rachel is the student outreach intern at the Sitar Arts Center. She works with students, parents, and teachers to keep Sitar up and running, as well as teaches pre-ballet and studio art for elementary school children. Rachel graduated with a BA in political science and mass communications at the University of California Berkeley with a love for the arts.

Angela Robinson, Marketing and Events Manager: Angela designs marketing and communications materials for the Center, oversees information technology, and coordinates events. She has a BA from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in Visual Arts with an emphasis in Imaging and Digital Arts. She teaches students web design and graphic design among other digital arts classes.

A. Lorraine Robinson, Director of Programs: A member of the staff since July 2004, Lorraine coordinates volunteers and curriculum development. She has a BA in psychology and theatre from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and a MA in theatre from Brown University. Lorraine is co-founder and director of a nonprofit theatre and film production company, MuseFire Productions. She is also a freelance professional theater director and dramaturg and is an adjunct professor of theatre for St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Elizabeth Sher, Programs Intern: Liz joined the Sitar Arts Center as Programs Intern in September 2008. In May 2008, she graduated with an honors degree from Brown University, where she studied history and music. Liz is also the author of five children’s books about music that serve as companion pieces to an educational concert series.

Rob Smith, Director of Students and Outreach Coordinator: Rob joined the staff in July 2004. Previously, he was the assistant registrar at Levine School of Music, as well as a professional percussionist, visual artist and private percussion teacher. Rob currently teaches percussion ensemble and music production at Sitar Arts Center.

Loretta Thompson, Community Programs and Office Manager: Loretta coordinates the A.R.T.S Circle, the Center’s parent volunteer group, teaches visual arts classes, and supports the program and outreach activities. She has a MA in Arts Management from George Mason University and five years experience in teaching visual arts to youth. In addition to her work at Sitar, Loretta is a professional artist and muralist.

Adrianne Wegner, Institutional Giving Manager: Adrianne coordinates foundation and government giving at the Center. Prior to joining the Center in March 2007, she served as the grants associate at The Phillips Collection. Adrianne has a MA in Visual Arts Administration from New York University and a BA in Art History from Wake Forest University.
