Sitar Arts Center Receives Generous Grant from the NBC Universal Foundation

Sitar Arts Center recently received a generous $20,000 grant from the NBC Universal Foundation in support of the Arts for Teens Initiative. Such a significant grant will enable the Center to increase enrollment and retention of adolescent students and provide them with outlets to both develop artistic skills and to apply them to potential career opportunities.

Sitar Student Named Winner in Arena Stage's 9th Annual Student Ten-Minute Play Competition

Sitar Arts Center student Forrest Penrod, 13, was recently named a winner of Arena Stage’s 9th Annual Student Ten-Minute Play Competition for his original script The Trouble with Restaurants. Selected from over 700 submissions from students in the Washington Metropolitan area, Forrest’s play was one of ten selected for the honor.

Sitar Arts Center Featured on WUSA 9's "Living Well" Segment

Sitar Arts Center was featured on WUSA 9's "Living Well" segment on Friday, March 28th during the 5pm news. Featuring the Center’s Pop’n’Lock class, which is offered in partnership with CityDance Ensemble, the segment highlights the healthy impact that performing arts and physical activity can have on a young person’s life.

Sitar Arts Center appeared on WJLA ABC 7’s “Good Morning Washington” program on Friday, February 8th. Deputy Director Maureen Dwyer highlighted Sitar student Daniel’s creative gifts and the opportunities Sitar Arts Center provides the youth of our community.
