WASHINGTON, March 28, 2024 – Sitar Arts Center is pleased to announce the winners of its 14th Annual Patricia Sitar Juried Exhibition “Life in Color,” on display at Sitar’s Cafritz Gallery through April 24, 2024. 

 Photographer Ting Wang won first place in the adult category for “Blue Serenity.” Jeffrey Felten-Green claimed second place in the adult category and the People’s Choice award for the painting “Windy Day.” In the young adult category, first place honor went to Kai Dixon, for the digital illustration “Bus Stop,” and second place went to Sophia St. John for the painting “My Lens.” 

 

Wang, expressed elation at winning first place in the Adult Category, sharing: “It’s a real honor to be part of your show and to receive this least expected recognition. I truly appreciate your gracious understanding, support, and encouragement.” 

 “Life In Color” features over 30 curated works from local, national, and international artists, exploring emotions, dimensions, and the reimagination of daily life through color. A distinguished panel of jurors oversaw the selection process, including abstract artist Maria-Victoria Checa, screenprint artist John Deardourff, multi-media artist Martina Loncar, and art historian and museum educator at the Phillips Collection, Kelly Richmand-Abdou. Deeply impressed, Loncar remarked, ” All of the submissions were truly outstanding, with each artist bringing a unique interpretation to the “Life in Color” prompt. It’s inspiring to see the diverse approaches taken by our talented community members.” 

 For over two decades, Sitar Arts Center has been offering high-quality and accessible arts education to children, teens, and young adults from every Ward of Washington, DC. Fostering a creative community of learning and belonging, Sitar Arts Center removes financial and cultural barriers to arts education and career training and believes everyone should have access to quality arts education. Since 2010, Sitar has held an annual juried exhibition, providing emerging artists a platform to exhibit their work professionally. This is a testament to Sitar’s commitment to equity and inclusion. 

 Maureen Dwyer, executive director of Sitar Arts Center, stated: “We are immensely proud of the artists who showcased their talent and dedication in this year’s exhibition. Their works embody the power of arts education and the significance of fostering a thriving creative community.  Some artworks from the exhibition are available for purchase at the Cafritz Gallery. The gallery, located at 1700 Kalorama Road NW, Suite 101 in Washington, DC, is open Monday through Friday, from noon – 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m. – noon.
