A TONY for A. Lorraine Robinson, Sr. Director of Programs
Sitar Arts Center’s A. Lorraine Robinson, Senior Director of Programs, was recognized with a 2017 Excellence in Theatre Education Honorable Mention Award. This annual honor recognizes a K-12 theatre educator in the U.S. who has demonstrated monumental impact on the lives of students and who embodies the highest standards of the profession.
“I am so surprised and excited and humbled to receive this Honorable Mention Award from The Tonys! It’s a dream come true. Each year we work so hard to share the magic and creativity of the art of theatre with our young people at Sitar, providing them with an opportunity to shine and express all of their innate gifts. For some of our students it is a way for them to gain life skills and for others they find their life’s passion. All of them are stars and I get excited to see what they are able to achieve on stage. I am grateful to be a part of it; to know each and every one of them, and to help guide them on their journey.” – A. Lorraine Robinson, Senior Director of Programs
Over the past few months, several rounds of judging have taken place, with a final panel of judges comprised of the American Theatre Wing, The Broadway League, Carnegie Mellon University and other leaders from the theatre industry selecting the winner and two finalists from more than 1,100 qualified entries. It was a tremendous field of candidates and we’re delighted to see so much amazing work happening in Theatre Education Nationwide.
