20-Year Volunteer Joe Link and Sitar Alum Michael Ventura Discuss the Impact of Sitar Arts Center on “Living Local DMV”
On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, volunteer faculty member Joe Link and Sitar alum Michael Ventura appeared on DCW50’s “Living Local DMV” to share how Sitar Arts Center transforms lives through the arts. This popular entertainment program serves as a platform for organizations like Sitar Arts Center to expand their reach and strengthen connections with the Washington metropolitan community.
Joe, who has volunteered with Sitar for over 20 years, shared about his passion for the Center’s mission and his long-term dedication: “The place is all about love and giving. It’s full of all kinds of art—ballet, theater, creative writing, digital work. It’s nothing but creativity, and that’s what makes it special.”
Michael, who started taking classes at Sitar when he was 11 and is now a professional musician, described the profound impact the Center had on his life. “I grew up in a community where the arts weren’t accessible,” he explained. “When I was a kid, I used to want to work at a Taco Bell in Langley Park because it was a special place for me. That’s where my uncle would take me when he came for visits from El Salvador. … I thought that was really as far as I could possibly go, honestly.” He went on to say “… when someone told me, you could make a living off of [music] if you’re good enough, I decided, well, I guess I’m just gonna have to get good enough.”
